1. Download
- Get the Demo v0.1.3 patch from HackDex.
- Unzip it if it comes as a ZIP file.
2. Patch
- Open Rom Patcher JS or HackDex’s own patcher.
- Add your clean Pokémon Fire Red (U) 1.0 ROM and the Odyssey II patch file.
- Click patch, then save the file it gives you — e.g.
Odyssey II.gba.
3. Play
- Open that new file in an emulator like mGBA — not the ROM, not the patch file.
- Save once early on to check it’s working.
Keep your original Fire Red ROM safe in case you need to patch again later.

What Is Heroes of Lemuria?
Heroes of Lemuria is a separate FireRed-based ROM hack from the same creator as Pokémon Odyssey, not a direct sequel to Nyx’s story. The setting moves from Talrega to the kingdom of Lemuria, built around the great World Tree Yggdrasil, where the Great Lemurian Race — a competition held once every ten years — brings trainers, explorers, and treasure hunters together.
Trainers who make it through the Race’s trials and battles get a chance to meet the Overlord, a mysterious figure who rules from a floating fortress and is said to grant a wish to whoever reaches them. Past winners are said to have never returned — uncovering what actually happened to them is part of the story.
Rather than the traditional Gym Leader and Elite Four structure, the story moves forward through travel, quests, and discovery. Most battles are Double Battles by default once you have two or more usable Pokémon, so team synergy — type coverage, speed control, and status effects — matters more here than it did in the original game.
What Carries Over From the Original
Heroes of Lemuria isn’t starting its Pokédex from zero. It features 300+ Pokémon spanning Generations 1–9, each reimagined as one of Lemuria’s own regional-style forms with new types, roles, and abilities — and creator PacoScarso has confirmed that roughly 100 of the original Pokémon Odyssey’s Etrian Variants are planned to return, Meganium, Mismagius, and Feraligatr among them, along with the rest of their evolution lines.

A new type added on top of the standard eighteen, giving battles an extra layer of type match-ups to plan around.

Optional tasks and side content are tracked in their own menu, separate from the main story.

Resource points scattered through the world — plus F.O.E.s, dangerous encounters usually best avoided until your team is ready.
Nature & Ability Changers
Items that let you change a Pokémon’s nature or ability, plus a physical/special split for moves.
Soft Level Caps
Adjustable difficulty and level-cap options, similar in spirit to the original’s Level Caps system.

Exploring Lemuria
A few habits that help while the demo is still new territory:
- Check side paths and talk to NPCs — quests and useful items are often tucked away from the main route.
- Keep an eye on the Sidequest Menu so optional tasks don’t get forgotten.
- Collect from Mining Points and Gathering Points when it’s safe to do so — they’re a steady source of resources.
- Treat F.O.E.s as a warning sign, not a challenge to rush. They’re usually easier to come back to once your team is stronger.
Level Caps & Difficulty
Heroes of Lemuria uses soft level caps to stop grinding from trivializing fights — it’s worth keeping several team members near the current cap rather than over-training just one, especially since the demo currently ends around Level 25.
Multiple difficulty settings are also available. The standard setting is the recommended starting point if you’re new to Double Battles or Etrian-style exploration; harder settings suit players who already have a handle on type matchups, move priority, switching, and team synergy.
Before You Update to a New Demo Version
Heroes of Lemuria is still in active development, so it’s worth backing up your progress before installing a newer build.
- Make a backup copy of your .sav file before doing anything else.
- Keep that original demo ROM together with its matching save file.
- Read the release notes for the newest build before updating.
- Check whether the creator says an older save can carry over — don’t assume it will.
- If the update calls for it, start a new file rather than risk a broken save.
