Pokémon Odyssey is a Pokémon FireRed ROM hack that combines Pokémon with dungeon-crawling gameplay inspired by Etrian Odyssey and Made in Abyss.

The Story
Pokémon Odyssey Story and Adventure
Pokémon Odyssey takes place on Talrega, an island dominated by the enormous Yggdrasil Labyrinth. The labyrinth has attracted Adventurers from around the world because nobody knows exactly how deep it goes or what can be found at its end. Treasures, lost discoveries, and unexplained mysteries all contribute to its appeal.
Nyx enters this world as a young Adventurer hoping to challenge the labyrinth and follow the path established by Aimée. As she descends deeper, the expedition becomes much more complicated than a simple search for treasure.
Talrega and the Yggdrasil Labyrinth
Talrega acts as the main hub for your expedition. Between trips into the labyrinth, players can return to town, interact with characters, take on side quests, prepare their Pokémon, and make use of different services. The labyrinth is divided into eight strata, each introducing its own environments, encounters, items, story events, and challenges. The story is structured around four major parts, with every two strata forming a larger arc.

Pokémon Odyssey combines traditional Pokémon team building with dungeon exploration. Instead of travelling from Gym to Gym, your main progression revolves around entering the Yggdrasil Labyrinth, exploring its strata, completing objectives, preparing your team, and defeating the important battles that block your progress.
Explore the Yggdrasil Labyrinth
Each stratum contains different environments, encounters, treasures, gathering points, quests, FOEs, and story events. Exploration involves paying attention to routes, resources, powerful enemies, and your team’s condition before pushing deeper.
Build a Double Battle Team
One of Pokémon Odyssey’s biggest gameplay changes is its emphasis on Double Battles. When building a team, consider type matchups, abilities, speed, defensive coverage, move combinations, support options, and Pokémon positioning and pair synergy.
Prepare Before Every Expedition
Preparation is particularly important because healing items cannot be used during battle. Make sure your Pokémon are healed, your moves are appropriate, and your team is prepared before entering a challenging area.
Face FOEs and Stratum Captains
FOEs are powerful roaming enemies found throughout the labyrinth. Sometimes the better strategy is to avoid them and return later. Each stratum also contains a Captain who acts as a major progression battle — defeating them allows Nyx to continue deeper.

Pokémon Odyssey Difficulty and Training
Difficulty is one of the areas where Pokémon Odyssey differs from a normal FireRed playthrough. You can choose between Picnic, Normal, and Hard Mode, allowing you to decide how much pressure level caps and stronger enemy teams should place on your progression. The game also provides tools that make Pokémon preparation easier, including systems for checking IVs and EVs and changing certain Pokémon characteristics through in-game functions. Because Double Battles are so common, training should focus on building a team that works together rather than simply maximizing individual Pokémon levels.
